EDIT: Skip below original question for my solution. Hey guys. So a couple months ago, I set up a full node using a Digital Ocean Droplet. After a few months, I decided to finally bring my node home. The node is all setup, currently syncing the chain, but I am having a few issues. I can not get my port open on my network, in order to see my node outside my network. Right now, I have 8 active connections, which I know is the standard for when you aren't connected to any outside nodes. My node is on a Raspberry Pi. I have given it, it's own static ip. I have assigned that static to the pi and also open ip it's ports (8333) for that static ip. When I run the following:
My ISP is Comcast, I am using an AirPort Extreme, and I have a Arris modem. Now I have tried connecting to that modem, and I can't do that. That would be my final troubleshoot, would be connecting to that. But my default gateway address just times out. And when I connect to it using another address, it just shows info about the modem and nothing you can edit. I am really stuck, and I would love to get this back to a node that connects with everyone else. Solution My solution had nothing to do with my router, my network, my ISP, it was my Pi! If you're having this issue, run the following command in your terminal.
sudo ufw status verbose
You're going to get an output similar to this response. Now if yours doesn't look the similar, or yours show that ports 8333 REJECT IN then you're going to run the following command.
sudo ufw allow from 8333
Everything is connected and working for me! Hope this helps someone else.
Bitcoin Node Port 8333 Open, But No Incoming Connections!
I recently started a bitcoin node to support the network. I opened the port 8333 on my router and have set my firewall to accept incoming connections from my bitcoin client, but It still doesn't show any incoming connections. I even visited the bitcode page to check my node status and it states that it is inaccessible. Please help!
Need help with a Bitcoin Node, can't get more than 8 connections (ports already forwarded)
I've spent two days trying to figure out how to get more than 8 connections, UPNP on, UPNP off, ports open, I can't seem to get more than 8 connections Should I put something specific in the bitcoin.conf? what should I do? EDIT: Not sure why, but setting the port via -port=8333 seemed to fix the issue, thanks everybody!
Needing help Running a Bitcoin Full Node. I have a Netgear N750 (WNDR4000) and I have opened a port forwarding yet I cannot get past 8 connections to BTC network. I do have a VPN, which I have shut down which has not helped. I have Mcaffee firewall but have made sure it is allowing this port 8333. Windows 10 defender is not on. Any ideas why I cannot get past this? Here are two pics, one showing settings of firewall, and one showing port settings of router. Bitcoin Core full-node technical question: how to customize port?
I want to open full-node to incoming connections, but I am unable to open 8333 because it is already taken on my VPN. There are however other ports available for me to use. Question is, how would I go about changing the port that my Bitcoin Core client uses? A DuckDuckGo search hasn't yielding any clear answer on this subject, other than it is possible to change the port that the Core client uses in the CLI.
I just upgraded my crappy soho router to a Protectli 6-port, i5, 240GB SSD, 8GB RAM. So far I love it but can't seem to get port forwarding (or something related) working. If I test any of the ports from yougetsignal it shows that they're open. But the Bitcoin node never gets more than 8 incoming connections which generally means that port forwarding isn't working. I have an OpenVPN connection setup and all LAN traffic goes out through that. NAT rule screenshot port check screenshot
PSA: If you are running Bitcoin Core and you are not forwarding port 8333 (peering only 8 connections) then younare not running a full node.
To quote Gavin Andresen:
Most ordinary folks should NOT be running a full node. We need full nodes that are always on, have more than 8 connections (if you have only 8 then you are part of the problem, not part of the solution), and have a high-bandwidth connection to the Internet. So: if you've got an extra virtual machine with enough memory in a data center, then yes, please, run a full node.
Edit: according to nullc and pwuille, by running Bitcoin Core (or XT) you help reinforce the rules of the network by verifying transactions even if you do not help network propagation as you would if you opened the ports. So you do add value to the network (and specifically yourself because trustless). Also, it is probably poor advice to abdicate control of your node to a data center.
